Mind Meanderings December 5th 2023

A couple of weeks ago, I truly celebrated a long-awaited milestone birthday.   Facebook friends sure made me feel great.   One message was from a friend who sent birthday message at 12 midnight … one second after midnight to be exact … he said he wanted to be the first one to tell me happy birthday on my birthday … he said it’s not fair when people say ‘happy birthday’ on the day before … But he cared enough to stay up late … just to be the first happy birthday wisher … we discussed this … told him I was surprised he and his family had stayed up so late … on a school night and all … He replied, “Well, I set an alarm to wake me at midnight” … so, he had been asleep, set the alarm, sent a happy birthday message and went back to sleep.   Man, that really got to me … People can be so kind to other people… I guess the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' song is the worst torture ... it is like the Christmas version of 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall ... And, I think the worst job

Mind Meandering September 2023

My Meandering Mind September 2023 The other day, a young man who is doing a lot of chores for me … I told him he was the Property Manager … anyway, he was ready to go home and he said, “I’m gonna make like a baby and head out…” I didn’t understand that at all and turned my head like when a German Shepherd doesn’t understand a sound … The young man said it again but used both hands kind of coming forward … Make like a baby and HEAD OUT!... Okay, like a newborn baby … Head Out! I hear sayings in my mind that people used to say but really don’t say that much anymore: --That happened in 'broad daylight'... as opposed to narrow daylight? Confused every time I head this ... --Clobbered … as in ‘Our little league team got clobbered but we still got to go to Dairy Queen for a Dilly Bar…” --I’ve got a ‘crick’ in my neck. Guess I slept crooked. --Come by whenever you are in our ‘neck of the woods’ … I have never understood a neck in the woods and especially freak out when someone in

Meandering Mind ... Thinking of Thoughts ...

At some point in life, people start referring to you as ‘young’… such as, ‘Betty White was 97 years “young”’ … But, you never hear… ‘Oh, he’s 37 years ‘young’…I guess that’s a given … when I'm 97, it will be okay to call me 97 years OLD ... I mean, I won't beat you up or anything like that ... But, when does the breaking point come in age … 80 years young? 90 years young seems like a sarcastic insult … like you are complimenting them but actually verbally smashing them in the face with a complimentary shovel… I’m 64 years old. I cannot believe it … and chose not to believe it … I’m 64 and this when I went to the dentist, (Endodontics) he asked me what music to play … Oh, he thought I’d say ‘Classic Rock’… even ‘Classic 80’s’ or ‘Disco 70’s’ … but I said “Current hits” … behind me they rolled their eyes … but put on ‘Current hits’… which is really what I listen to … I think of it as investigatory listening … With the freaking pain killer swab in my mouth and leaking all over

Spending Time thinking about Time ...

Time well spent ... an essay in progress ... time keeps on slippin' slippin' into the future ... I have been reading a book titled, “On Borrowed Time.” It is a good whodunit book by Robert Goddard … coincidence of the last name … he does write good books … for a Goddard. So, I have been spending a lot of time thinking about time … That old country song, “Livin’ on Borrowed Time” keeps playing in my head but that is the only lyric I recall … and I’ll be damned if a spend any of my time ‘google-ing’ it … I always give myself three day’s time to remember something before I resort to World Wide Web.. So, time to talk about time… It’s about TIME … It’s about SPACE … It’s about time I slapped your FACE! … that was the theme song for a short-lived TV show when I was in the second grade … that song and the following slap got me in trouble in the second grade. At recess, I had to sit on one of those silver painted poles that had chains running through them to sort of make a playgrou
