 My Meandering Mind September 2023

The other day, a young man who is doing a lot of chores for me … I told him he was the Property Manager … anyway, he was ready to go home and he said, “I’m gonna make like a baby and head out…”
I didn’t understand that at all and turned my head like when a German Shepherd doesn’t understand a sound … The young man said it again but used both hands kind of coming forward … Make like a baby and HEAD OUT!... Okay, like a newborn baby … Head Out!
I hear sayings in my mind that people used to say but really don’t say that much anymore:
--That happened in 'broad daylight'... as opposed to narrow daylight? Confused every time I head this ...
--Clobbered … as in ‘Our little league team got clobbered but we still got to go to Dairy Queen for a Dilly Bar…”
--I’ve got a ‘crick’ in my neck. Guess I slept crooked.
--Come by whenever you are in our ‘neck of the woods’ … I have never understood a neck in the woods and especially freak out when someone in west Texas says this. I know for a fact that there are no woods in west Texas, save for Mesquite trees which are really just weeds with bark and thorns. And no ‘neck’ in west Texas … there is a couple of panhandles nearby though…
--We have street clothes, Sunday clothes, Sunday shoes, School Clothes, School Shoes, Tennis Shoes (meaning every type of sneakers… does anyone say ‘sneakers’ anymore?) Grubbies, Painting Clothes … I never understood ‘street clothes’ …
--One time, I heard this huge man who had played football center in college and was adult and all … and he said, ‘Larry, I was standing on my tippy toes in that photo’… I think ‘tippy toes’ coming out of a mountain of a grown man is one of the funniest things in my life …
--I just got a ‘wild hair’ and went to Wal-Mart in my PJ’s … He’s as wild as a ‘March hare’ … weird sayings completely …
--Is he still in his ‘right mind’?
--Once I heard the word ‘ed-ju-ma-cated’, I can never say ‘educated’ … without pronouncing it like the Three Stooges.
There are so many more sayings that I’d like to discuss, but daylight’s wasting and not broad daylight anymore …
My busted wrists are barking like my ‘dogs are barking’ … (a too tight shoe saying … ) …
So, I’ll end this mind from meandering …
Nows the sayings will just be from the voices in my head …

  So, this happened. I did something good for all the bad reasons. No, maybe I did something bad for all the right reasons. Yeah, that’s the ticket. A couple of Mondays ago … I cleaned out the freezers. Threw away anything which was frost bitten … which was just about everything. But, I got snake bit ridding us of the frost bitten … I put out FIVE trash cans for the Tuesday ‘solid waste’ pickup. I always put the maximum amount out for the trash day … I feel like I get ‘gypped’ if I don’t … like I don’t get my money’s worth unless I’ve rounded up a lot of trash… kitty commode scoops always top off the garbage take out … So, Monday night … huge storm. Rain, hail, lightning that was so lightening that the darkness-activated landscape lights were blinking … no idea if night had turned into day. Travel Log for Antarctica Trip—2003-04 December 21, 2003 Hello From Africa I arrived in Cape Town after about 20 hours in a charter flight from New York—it was supposedly the charter plane that the Buffalo Bills football team uses. We had major problems refueling in Ghana—seems the airport official wanted a cash bonus payment—took over 4 hours to settle—we couldn’t leave the plane. Toured Cape Town yesterday. Took a cable car to the highest point, Table Mountain, for a beautiful view of the city and seaside. Shopped at the Waterfront area of Cape Town and, yes, I will be throwing away clothes that I brought with me in order to bring back all the souvenirs. More later.   Vancouver In Bloom—A Sight Worth the Wet Season If this city had a face, I’d make out with it.   Seriously. It is that beautiful, clean, historic, futuristic, and friendly. Vancouver is a recently-discovered wonderland of travel destination.   Before the 1986 World’s Fair Expo and the 2010 Winter Olympics, it had been a cruise ship souviner shop stop. Now, the number one business for Vancouver?   Tourism.   Number two?   Entertainment/movies/television filming (behind only Los Angeles and New York). The city is funky yet lady-like.   Great art museums with everything from historically rich British Art to the “First Nation” residents…I love that term….better than “Natives” or “____”…The First Nation residents.   I anticipated hokey totem poles and there are some, but very few.   Lush gardens like the Queen Elizabeth indoor garden, the Vancouver Island (a hour and a half ferry ride—it does have great food and shopping but d...
