Old Sayings that I like Now... October 6th 2019

Oh, I guess I like people who say, “What’s at the picture show?” the best.
People who call them ‘fruit jars’… not just ‘jars’.
I like folks who are 'rare-in' to go... is that how you spell it? Rarin' ... ? Raring to go?
I have often wondered if race horses 'wee wee' any different from regular horses... but I've used that phrase... I've got to piss like a racehorse for probably 40 years...
I like the word ‘easy’. Like when you say, “I took a Bayer’s and finally felt ‘easy’.” Today, I'm just going to 'take it easy'... says it all...
I like people who stay by their brands. Bayer’s, Kleenex, Coke… all mean a wide variety of things.
And, ‘brand new’ is something I say and always hesitate afterwards thinking, “Why do I say ‘brand new’?” New is new… but ‘brand new’ is for real new.
When someone buys a car—and I hate this—but folks will ask, “Is it new” and the new car owner has to say, “New to me!”
I like the word ‘hankering’; don’t like the word ‘dire’.
I like when I am asked to ‘fetch’ something from ‘over yonder’.
I like to hear things like ‘front bedroom’ and ‘west side of the house’.
I like toothpicks in a baby food jar with the top painted green. I like rice in the salt shaker. I like to scorch a cast iron skillet—and no question about it—‘hand wash’ it.
I like chaparrals and think it joyful when I see one. Not too long, one came and looked in the ‘glass doors’…. Also called ‘sliders’ but ours look like a French Door.
I always wanted a Dutch Door like in the talking Mr. Ed television show.
And I always notice the cross door when I see one. Do you know the cross door? You most likely have one… think it has about eight inlaid sections but the top four form a cross. Nice.
Screen doors are under rated.
I miss the screen door on my last house. It would make this awfully loud noise – no hydraulic fancy closing system… just a rusted spring. But, I was given notice as folks walked in the screened porch to knock on my door.
In those split seconds, I would decide whether to ‘play possum’ or answer the door for my ‘company’.
Next to the screen door was a little cat door and it made as loud of a notice when Edna the Siamese cat would enter the porch area. I had to keep a window open for Edna the Siamese cat so she could jump in.
She liked the screened porch and sat for hours being entertained by birds of all kinds.
I guess all that’s left to do today is ‘fix’ some sweet tea in a fruit jar, take a couple of Bayer’s and see what’s on the picture show….
Or I could just watch birds out the screen porch.
Most entertaining.
